For the length of the temperature sensor, splicing in about any 24gauge wire or thicker should be fine, <br>there are 3 wires inside the sheath, 1 shield and 2 signal.<br>

Try this version, should address all items I mentioned (including breaking up into smaller moves inside<br> driver):<br>

Extract to some directory and then navigate to:<br>
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ASCOM\Focuser<br>
Rename GCUSB_nSTEP.exe to GCUSB_nSTEP.bak to back it up<br>
Copy the new extracted file to this same directory<br>

On W7 it will be the 'Program FIles(x86)' folder and you may need to set for 'Run as Administrator' for the EXE<br>
